I. Reported Speech using S + be + said/believed/told… + to-V/to have V3
When there is a time order between the reported action (in “”) and the reporting verb (said/believed/told), in which the reported action happened BEFORE it was reported, we have to use perfect infinitive (to have V3)
Example: “Dave is a great father” she said.
Dave was said to be a great father.
“The woman killed the man using a hammer.” – the police reported.
The woman was reported to have killed the man using a hammer.
III. Reported Speech using S + be + accused of/suspected of + V-ing/having V3
When there is a time order between the reported action (in “”) and the reporting verb (accused of/suspected of), in which the reported action happened BEFORE it was reported, we have to use perfect gerund (having V3)
Example: “I think the boy’s not telling the truth” the woman said. (suspected)
The boy was suspected of not telling the truth.
“The man over there! He stole my purse.” – the old lady said. (accused)
The man over there was accused of having stolen the old lady's purse.
